In the Grand Cinema at the Beamish 50's village. The original cinema was built in Ryhope in 1912 which later became a bingo hall, then a car garage and was demolished in 2020. It has been reconstructed, using a mix of new and original bricks. As some of the ornate plasterwork was in a bad condition it had to be recreated from relief casts, detailed drawings and photographs. Luckily the stained glass windows were saved and are the originals.
and close up of the windows [I'm afraid the quality is not very good as they are extracts from the above photos]
There are two stained glass windows at the front of the cinema and the windows below are where the projectors are.
Flower of the Week
My orchid is in flower again, it seems to like living in my bathroom. The last one I had liked the conservatory but I think it is too hot for this one.
It grew another flower very quickly
I got another type of orchid as a gift from my son, this one is called Dendrobium
That's it for today, enjoy your week.

Your doodlewash art pieces are always so charming! And that's a great restoration job on that old cinema. We have one here in Edmonton that is laid out very similarly. But alas, no lovely stained glass windows in ours.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh your art makes me happy and want to be a better artist. The Grand Cinema is certainly that, Grand. Wonderful photos and the orchid and Dendrobium are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteI recall seats like that in movie houses. They where so comfortable.
ReplyDeleteLovely art and photos -lucky you with the orchid -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThe cinema looks quaint and stylish with its stained glass and plush seats.
ReplyDeleteYour orchid is stunning! I have often seen purple Dendrobium, but not white.
Queenie
I'm just made a card for the 'Dragonfly' theme. Your painting is gorgeous, and the orchid is so well drawn that I thought it's a photo 👏🌹
ReplyDeleteSorry, it's photo!! I read "grew" as draw 🤔🤗
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be great if they served popcorn on airplanes. I suppose it would make a huge mess. And wow, your orchid is gorgeous. I've never tried growing any but I hear they are a bit tricky. Have a super weekend.
ReplyDeleteI do like your doodlewash art.
ReplyDeleteNice photographs showing the cinema.
Your orchid is beautiful, lovely colour and markings.
Hope the Dendrobium does well, it looks a healthy plant.
Enjoy the week ahead.
All the best Jan
