Embroidered Bird

I've enhanced a bird I painted a few weeks ago with hand embroidery, I used running stitch with different coloured threads.
Below is the bird without stitching. I think I used a stamp for the general outline then filled in the rest with a brush. Brusho and Manutex.

New Fabric Swatches

First of all I thought I would tell you that my website linsart will be closing down in a few days so if you wanted to take a look before it goes, now is your chance.
I will be keeping my blogs, flickr, pinterest etc
My new swatches have arrived from Spoonflower.
I created this design on my tablet.
The following two are older designs and they are both border prints.
first, the swatch. I used fabric to create this design which was screen printed
and this is what the full design looks like

another swatch
and the full design
The fabrics are available to purchase from Spoonflower

Herringbone Variations

The herringbone stitch is the pale purple thread together with single fly stitches in yellow and red.

The row across is another form of herringbone stitch - twisted lattice band. This is made up of double herringbone stitch which has been laced. I used four colours here, pale purple, yellow threaded with orange and red, although normally just two colours are used. [I should have taken a close up] This stitch is number 121 of Take a Stitch Tuesday. The fabrics are remnants of vintage wool and cord. This is a picture of my mother wearing a coat made from the purple and black fabric. I'm not sure of the date of the photo but she is 86 now and I can remember her wearing the coat when I was young.

Quilt Keeper

I actually made this ages ago, but I was looking for the photo of it yesterday and realised I hadn't got one. It is made up of Spoonflower swatches, 8 I think. I made it to keep a small quilt in it, and it can also be used as a flat cushion too.

The whole fabric collection can be seen here

Drawn on my tablet.
I used the mirror tool in Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, whatever you draw on one side is magically drawn on the other side, a mirror image.

I finished stitching on the leaf print today. It will be a page[s] in a book eventually ....I think.

WIP and TAST 111

I've worked a couple more TAST stitches on my hand printed fabric. I used Tast 111, zig zag coral stitch as a couching thread to keep the organza in place on top of the printed fabric [light blue, perle thread]. As you can see I sewed it in a random manner rather than all the same size. I also used Tast 114, Long tail chain stitch together with running stitch to define the leaf pattern [dark blue, flower thread].
