Monday Window, Thursday Doors, Pull up a Seat
At Seaton Delaval Hall which is a stately home owned by the National Trust. The following is a quote by the National Trust
The Delavals arrived with William, Duke of Normandy, as part of his invading army in 1066 and lived at Seaton for the next 700 years. In 1718, Admiral George Delaval called upon Sir John Vanbrugh to expand upon the existing house. Vanbrugh, who felt the old building was beyond repair, suggested that the site be cleared for the construction of a splendid new mansion. Delaval took Vanbrugh’s advice but died two years before the Hall was completed in 1728. Seaton Delaval Hall was the last country house Vanbrugh designed, and it is regarded as his finest work. In 1822, the central block was severely damaged by fire. It was re-roofed during John Dobson’s partial restoration in 1862-3, the central block remaining a shell with the effects of fire clearly visible in the great hall. Further restoration was completed in 1959 and the early 1960s, with recent conservation by the National Trust following acquisition in 2009.

Oh my gosh, those photos are absolutely stunning! I am honestly obsessed with that old architecture, especially with the fire damage still visible in the hall. It gives it such a mysterious and cool vibe, like a movie set or something. And those snowdrops are literally the cutest thing ever. They look so delicate and perfect against the grass. I am seriously so sorry about your Sri Lanka trip being cancelled though. That is honestly such a huge bummer and I can't even imagine how stressful it must be with everything going on in the news. You have such an amazing outlook though. Being safe and at home is definitely the most important thing right now even if it's super disappointing to miss out on an adventure. I am totally with you on hoping for peace soon!
ReplyDeleteLovely art and photos. Sorry about your trip but you are safe!
ReplyDeleteI'm so taken by this Rabbit? With his glasses, and funny feet and his expression. So cleverly created. The Seaton Delaval Hall is amazing. I could spend a lot of time there. Thank you so much for joining FFO and have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love your Doodlewash squirrel! And interesting photos too! Bummer that Trump's war is affecting your travel plans.
ReplyDeleteLove that squirrel.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information and photographs from Seaton Delaval Hall.
So sorry your trip to Sri Lanka was cancelled ... I do hope peace comes soon.
All the best Jan
You are so good at putting all the prompts into one illustration!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your ruined travel plans. One never knows what is around the corner - the world often appears upside-down, just like the drawing room at Seaton Delaval Hall.

I love your squirrel drawing. And that's a shame about your trip. I don't know why the big dummy started this war and what it was meant to accomplish except driving up fuel prices and then everything else. But you are right, at least you have a home, and I do too, whereas some people don't have their lives or even their homes.
ReplyDeleteLove the squirrel π the buds are mystery to meπ€
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend π·
I am sorry your trip was cancelled. I hope you'll be able to travel again soon. I love the squirrel doodle the most! The photos from the estate are gorgeous. I'm glad it finally received a proper restoration and is now being cared for.
ReplyDeleteLove the squirrel! Lovely Deleval Hall-so glad things are respected and restored in your beautiful country. I'm so sorry about your plans being changed, and for this horrible war.
ReplyDeleteYou've perfectly captured the enquiring look on that little squirrel's face!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo gallery. Love your artwork and the beautiful snowdrops.
