Mythical Mail - page 6 Duke of York

Oh, the grand old Duke of York he had ten thousand men

He marched them up to the top of the hill

and he marched them down again.

When they were up, they were up

and when they were down, they were down

and when they were only halfway up

they were neither up nor down

The postage stamps are not my art work but are original ‘recycled’ stamps from around the world. The extra post marks which were not already on the stamps were made with rubber stamps purchased from ‘Crafty Individuals’.

Mythical Mail - page 5 Dr Foster & curly snow

Dr Foster went to Gloucester
In a shower of rain
He stepped in a puddle
right up to his middle
& never went there again

I thought I would also show these photos of the snow on my car windscreen, there wasn't a lot of it, but it had curled over & looked unusual [well I've never seen it do that anyway]. There is not much snow left anywhere else, just on my windscreen

Mythical Mail - cover

I had a sketch book sitting on my shelf for quite a while as I wasn’t sure what to do with it. As the pages were brown paper, the kind you wrap parcels in, I eventually decided that the book would be good for a subject to do with mail. I had fairy tale characters in mind and made a start but soon got a bit ‘stuck’. Thanks to my friend Helen & her daughter we had a brainstorming day which got the old brain cells working and after that the ideas kept coming. The book was finished last year & I really enjoyed doing it.

All the postage stamps in the book are not my art work but are original ‘recycled’ stamps from around the world, which I have been collecting for years. Helen kindly donated some too from her stash. The extra post marks which were not already on the stamps were rubber stamps purchased from ‘Crafty Individuals’.

Book of Rules - Games

I was rooting thru my drawers when I came across this book of alternative [games] rules. It was done for a project at college a few years back, games related. [the project was for fabric designs, shoes & wellies which can be seen on my website] It is made from playing cards which have been covered & joined together, painted, drawn on, with alternative rules printed & collaged.

Winter Wonderland

I designed this picture for the Hand Embroidery Network exhibition - Winter Wonderland. I was to register by a certain date & then forward the pictures at a later date, but as I didn't think I would get it done in time, I didn't register. As it happened, the date to send entries was extended, so I would have got it done in time after all. Never mind, I will put it in the 'Layers' exhibition.
Check out the other entries at HEN, there are some really good ones.

Picture  - Paint, running stitch, french knots.
The window - painted heavyweight vilene, plastic, hand stitching.
Deep frame - the window is next to the glass & the snowscene at the back to give the effect of space, looking through a window.

I like the bird

Spider & Fish Sketch

a page from a sketch book - the spider was drawn with pencil & didn't show up very well so I altered it a little and the colours you see underneath are from the other side of the page, quite a nice effect I think.

Needle Weaving ATC

The needle weaving was an old sample which I decided to make into an ATC. It is now sandwiched between 2 clear plastic sheets, held together with brads. The picture above shows both sides.
