Aye-Aye

Aye-Ayes are an endangered species.

Aye-Ayes can be found only on the island of Madagascar. They are under threat because of deforestation, poaching and persecution. Natives of Madagascar believe they are harbingers of bad luck and if an aye-aye points it's long skinny finger at someone, they are marked for death. Others believe that they can creep into homes and use their tapping finger to pluck out the hearts of humans, therefor when they are seen they are killed on sight.

  2. Love how you painted this fun looking animal. I doubt that they are that bad as people there believe...

  3. Although those stories are interesting to read about, it's not good for the aye-ayes, is it? Lovely piece Linda. Happy weekend to you also.

  4. I wasn't familiar with this animal, Lin. How sad they are killed because of superstitions. I thought it was related to a lemur when I saw your drawing, but I looked it up and learned it was a primate. I think they're very cute. Have a good weekend!

  6. Ohno-so sad they are so superstitious about an animal that they will kill it. Your painting is very good.

  7. It's astonishing how many inoffensive animals have had the most gruesome legends tacked onto them, isn't it!

  8. That is a sad state of affairs. The Aye Ayes should find a home somewhere where people appreciate them and aren't savaging their habitat. Wishful thinking, right? I do hope there is a solution for them, they deserve better.
